Turner Industries Completes Fin Fan Replacement Project at Cheniere’s Sabine Pass LNG Facility

Turner Industries’ mechanical, SIPA, and SWS groups recently completed a fin fan replacement project on the first of six trains at Cheniere’s Sabine Pass LNG export facility in Cameron, Louisiana.

The initial replacement project was completed without a single OSHA-recordable incident. It is part of a larger, 18-month project that involves replacing approximately 1,200 fans across the facility’s six trains. Fin fans in an LNG facility cool down hot gases such as propane by blowing air over them, helping to turn the gas into liquid form.

With approximately 70 Turner employees working day and night shifts, the project was completed on time and within budget. This project showcases Turner’s ability to perform work at LNG facilities safely and efficiently.

“Our success on this project reflects the hard work and collaboration between not only our teams but Cheniere’s teams as well,” said Alan King, a vice president of maintenance and turnarounds for Turner Industries.

Specifically, the fans Cheniere used for the debottlenecking project were Tuf-Lite IV fans, which were designed and manufactured by Chart Industries Inc. Tuf-Lite IV fans have a uniquely designed backward sweep characteristic, which improves efficiency and resiliency.

“We appreciate Turner’s work in helping us advance the installation of these fin fans at our SPL site,” said Cheniere SVP of Operations Maas Hinz. “Over the past year, our team worked closely with Chart Industries to develop this fan model, which we believe will help us maintain our competitive edge in the LNG industry. This is a technology developed and manufactured in Texas, and we are proud to have Turner, a company with a presence in the Golden Triangle and a Sabine Pass neighbor, help us install it.”

“We’re proud to partner with Cheniere and Turner Industries to help optimize Sabine Pass production,” said Chart CEO and President Jill Evanko. “We look forward to continuing our partnership of new and innovative solutions.”
