Rebuild of Boiler at Shell Norco

rebuild of boiler at shell norco

Norco, Louisiana

Turner Industries completed a turnaround at Shell in Norco, Louisiana, rebuilding one of the plant boilers.

  • The scope of work included the removal and reinstallation of about half of the drum internals, installation of flanges and valves, removal and reinstallation of sample tubes, gaskets, and a 25-foot-long superheat vent line.
  • The critical path of the job was to remove and reinstall the entire economizer – consisting of 38 panels with 76 buttwelds outside the boiler. This work also included removing and replacing a 12’ X 28’ expansion joint directly above the economizer.
  • Discovery work during the outage turned the replacement of two other expansion joints into critical path work along with the economizer work.
